In a recent round of lessons-on-bugs, the girls and I were outside talking about spiders. We had several examples of neat spider to look at with a good contingent of daddy long legs spiders. Ella thought this was a funny name.
We've probably not explored spiders in the back yard since August or early September.
Last week Melanie spotted a spider in the house. It was, I'm told, terrifyingly huge. Ugly. Horrible. Frightening. More than a little worthy of screaming at and Not To Be Approached Without A Solid Grip On A Firm Shoe. I'm not sure how Claire and Ella responded in the moment.
Hours later over dinner, Ella turned to me and burst out in tears. She just kept looking at me accusingly and crying. Finally she got to the point.
"I don't like your long legs Daddy! I don't like your long legs!"
